Capstone Arcade Platformer

Team based capstone game project where I created pixel art assets, designed user interface elements, supported asset integration, and contributed to testing and debugging throughout development.

Overview

This capstone project involved building a retro style arcade platformer as part of a team. My work focused on the game’s visual presentation, interface design, and asset consistency across different screens and gameplay elements. I created player facing visual assets, helped maintain a cohesive style throughout the project, and worked with teammates to ensure assets fit properly into the broader game workflow and development process.

What I Built and Contributed

  • • Created pixel art assets including sprites, backgrounds, and supporting visual elements for the game
  • • Designed and built user interface elements such as menus, character select screens, pause screens, score displays, and leaderboard screens
  • • Maintained visual consistency across gameplay and interface assets through consistent sizing, alignment, and style decisions
  • • Organized assets and naming structure so files were easier for the team to find, manage, and integrate
  • • Worked with teammates to ensure assets fit gameplay needs and functioned properly in the project
  • • Supported system integration by helping connect visual assets into the broader game workflow
  • • Contributed to testing and debugging throughout development to help improve stability and presentation

Challenges

One of the main challenges was maintaining visual consistency across many different assets while also making sure they fit correctly into the game itself. That included refining scale, alignment, color balance, and readability so assets looked cohesive and worked well in gameplay. Another challenge was adjusting assets after seeing them in engine, which required multiple iterations and close coordination with teammates to make sure the visuals supported the overall experience.
